Stephen Hawking had a very colorful life, attending incredible schools, living a frugal life with his family who all used to drive around London in an old converted London taxi cab. In his early 20’s he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a type of motor neuron disease, which gradually paralyzed him over the decades, although the initial verdict was that he only had 2-years to live. He survived another 55! Today we take in some of his intriguing and quite possibly, accurate predictions! He truly believed that Trump will be the one to push Earth over the brink and that Earth would end up like Venus with temperatures reaching 250-degrees Celsius and there would be sulphuric acid rain instead of water. Sounds like fun! Trump took the US out of the global Paris agreement, stating, “a reassertion of America’s sovereignty”. Many have questioned this and wondered what Trump would will do to tackle climate change on its own terms. Hawking said, “Climate change is one of the great dangers we face, and it’s one we can prevent if we act now. By denying the evidence for climate change, and pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, Donald Trump will cause avoidable environmental damage to our beautiful planet, endangering the natural world, for us and our children.” 6 - Slight malfunction… Although not a prediction, it was more the way in which Stephen Hawking looked at his brain that was rather unique. He regarded his brain as a computer, that would behave like a computer would. Once the parts stopped working and the components failed, the computer would shut down. He didn’t believe in an after-life, citing it to be a fairytale for those who were afraid of the dark. Despite that, he had no fear of what would happen when his brain AKA his computer eventually malfunctioned. 5 - Asteroid strike… Another miserable way in which Hawking felt the Earth would be destroyed would be courtesy of a giant asteroid. This theory is not hard to believe, and in 2016 he was quoted as saying, "One of the major threats to intelligent life in our universe is the high probability of an asteroid colliding with inhabited planets.” He mentioned that we are only aware of roughly 15-20% of the objects out there that are bigger than a few hundred meters in size, and any of those could plummet towards Earth at any given moment. 4 - Taking things into our own hands… IN 2009 the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) completed a huge undertaking, building the world’s largest particle collider. This machine was developed to smash particles together at incredible speeds in the hope of creating Higgs boson particles. It’s been nicknamed the God particle, which are believed to give other particles mass. CERN believe they have found the particle, but nothing has been confirmed as research continues. Hawking was not happy with this kind of machine, saying that, “the universe could undergo catastrophic vacuum decay, with a bubble of the true vacuum expanding at the speed of light. This could happen at any time and we wouldn’t see it coming.” 3 - There is hope… Thinking of all the doom and gloom predicted by Hawking in this video, there is a little relief. He does believe that our energy bills would fall by 2024… encouraging, is it not? He truly believed that we would make significant advancements over the next few years, such as developments in high temperature superconductivity which would enable us to transport energy more efficiently and at a more affordable rate, which would see a significant drop in our energy bills. Hopefully an asteroid wouldn’t have hit us in the interim! 2 - One small addition… When Hawking was questioned about Fate VS Free Will, he had a rather quirky response: "I have noticed that even people who claim everything is predetermined and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road." 1 – Goals Achieved… Hawking had a simple goal… "My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all." His final book will be published in October, called “Brief Answers to the Big Questions,” and it will cover 4 parts, “"Why Are We Here?"; "Will We Survive?"; "Will Technology Save Us or Destroy Us?" and "How Can We Thrive?" Be sure to have a bit of his legacy in your home when it’s released. 1...
