COVID-19 treatment. Do the drugs hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin work? We take a closer look!

Things are rapidly changing, since this video there have been two more small studies looking at HCQ - one showed no benefit, one showed faster recovery of symptoms for non hospitalized patients. A big randomzied multicenter trial is under way as well which is great news! This is objective, scientific review of the evidence and interpretation of the data as of March 22nd. If you are wondering, YES I use hydroxychloroquine in patients, but NO, i don't know how much it helps.... Yet.... There has been a lot of hope and a lot of hype about various drugs that may be effective against SARS-COV2 virus or the COVID-19 infection. Do we have a COVID-19 treatment yet? Recently there was a lot of press about the combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin based on a small study out of France. Trump asked the FDA to immediately approve the therapy for use. However, how good is the science and evidence for this combination? How about for hydroxychloroquine itself, is it a promising treatment? In this video I discuss the study that sparked this buzz, and the mechanism and data of hydroxychloroquine against COVID-19, and what else is in the pipeline, including my thoughts on how hydroxychloroquine may pan out. Also what I forgot to add is that combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin could be harmful as well by prolonging the QTc interval potentially leading to arrhythmias!
