Jones Road Wildfire Forces Thousands to Evacuate as Flames Rage Across Ocean County A massive wildfire erupted Tuesday morning in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area near Barnegat Township, New Jersey, rapidly growing to engulf approximately 8,500 acres by nightfall. Dubbed the Jones Road Fire, the blaze triggered mandatory evacuations for about 3,000 residents across Ocean, Lacey, and Barnegat Townships. As of late Tuesday, the fire remained only 10% contained. Fueled by dry, windy conditions and ongoing drought, the fire spread with alarming speed. To ensure firefighter safety, power was cut in affected areas, leaving over 25,000 customers without electricity. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
