EU pours billions into Coronavirus response, but demands for Corona Bonds remain

EU Commission President Von Der Leyen believes that “new tools” like Corona Bonds are not the right economic response to the COVID19 crisis, because the idea causes needless division and could take years to develop. She says the MFF long-term EU budget should be used instead. The fact that it hadn't been agreed before the crisis struck could have been a blessing in disguise. But it seems unlikely that the new financial measures announced today, like the Sure programme to keep people in employment, will be enough to quell the demands for EU debt collectivisation coming from Italy and Spain.
