Lets us know first about Time-lapse technology for embryo culture and selection What is Time-Lapse Imaging in IVF? Time-lapse imaging is an incubator, (an incubator is a device wherein the embryos are cultured ) that collects the photographs of the embryos which are growing at a separate frame of time. The time-lapse imaging helps the doctor in the selection of embryos during IVF treatment. One should keep in my mind that time-lapse imaging does not increase the IVF success rate. These success rates or clinical pregnancy rates are going to approximately 30%-35% for the patient undergoing IVF. Role of time-lapse monitoring in Embryo Selection This system helps the doctor to select the best embryo in order to achieve the highest possible implantation and simultaneously it gives insight into if the embryo is a chromosomally normal embryo or not. Let's know about all the steps while performing this procedure. The most important thing which is required while doing the time-lapse imaging is a culture coin dish wherein the embryos are hosted. -The well in which these embryos are hosted will be zoomed in the ICSI microscope. -the culture coin is put in an inverted microscope and on the screen, you can see the circle in the centre in which the embryo will be hosted and then it's placed inside the lid of time-lapse imaging machine. The camera inside will take the images of growing embryos every 30 seconds. -Later the lid is closed and the system is activated. You can see the state of the embryos on the systems LCD screen. -Doctor accumulate all this data over 5 days of culture and based on this data the best embryo is chosen for embryo transfer.
