Afterlife Paranormal Society Investigates Haunted Lavaca County Jail

The Haunted Old Lavaca County Jail in Hallettsville, Tx. Built in 1885 on the former site of the D.W. Merritt home, this building served as the Lavaca County Jail until 2005, making it the second longest continuously operating jail in Texas. In 1976, the Mayfield Construction Company of San Antonio enlarged and modified the building, adding newer cells (almost 100 years newer) to the first floor. Roger Chambers, of Rita, Inc., purchased the building in 2014 with plans to eventually reveal the original building facade through restoration work. In 2015, Debra Fawcett became the property manager and began the clean up and restoration process of the jail. She quickly discovered it was still occupied by a number of spirits including former prisoners and one who she believes to be one of the early sheriffs. The old jail has undergone an amazing transformation and restoration is ongoing. The jail is managed by Debra Fawcett and Lisa Franks and tours are available by appointment. (Source:   / lcj33  )
