Alien Ship Sounds - Humming, Ambient, No Death | Halo: Campaign Evolved

Halo 1's AI had this almost indescribable rhythm to it. It's been referred to as a dance, and you know, for good reason. Everything just feels methodical, strategic, and thought out. The pacing of encounters is slow enough to allow a methodical approach, but fast enough to keep the tension and to keep you on your toes. The AI changes in Campaign Evolved along with the addition of sprint massively increase the pace of gameplay and almost encourage you to just throw yourself at the enemy. And as a result, I really feel like it lacks. Halo 1's more methodical feel. It just feels like with the overall slower pace, you had more time to stop and think about your approach to an encounter. You made a conscious decision as to which enemy to take out first or which enemy to focus in combat more often. Whereas here, you just sort of shoot anything indiscriminately as long as it makes your crosshair turn red. Now, thankfully, this is still fun thanks to how good Campaign Evolved's visual feedback is when damaging and killing enemies. Actually, far better than Reach, in my opinion. But, you know, when playing it side byside with original Halo 1, I really can't help but feel like the gameplay here is just lacking a bit of depth as a result. Would you believe it? Those two points are linked. Walking through the hallways of the ctographer or the cliff facilities in the icy ravine before the control room feels near identical in pacing to OG Halo 1. Almost surprisingly so. But as soon as you start to sprint, you immediately notice that the play spaces are too small for it. Or rather that sprint is too fast for them. And this makes me concerned for the even tighter hallways of Pillar of Autumn. Truth and Reconciliation, Keys, and the more. As per the small glimpses we've had of these levels so far in trailers, their level design seems entirely unchanged in size and scale. And given that they often felt quite small back in OG Halo 1, they're going to feel even smaller here with sprint. And this also feeds into my earlier point about the pacing of encounters feeling too fast. Being able to sprint around environments that clearly were never designed for such high base move speed makes going from encounter to encounter even faster, which combines with their already faster pace to make it even faster and even less thoughtful overall.
