The so-called history of Amazon women | Ancient Greek Period Art Project/30

It is said that Amazons lived in the Pontus region, located on the Black Sea coast within the borders of Turkey today. Here they establish an independent kingdom under the leadership of their queen Hippolyta. It is claimed that the Amazons founded many cities, especially Ephesus, Sinope, Paphos and Smyrna. The famous historian Herodotus defines the Amazons as androktones, that is, men-killers. These are also called oiorpata in Scythian. According to some legends, Amazons were strictly forbidden to have sexual intercourse with men and men could not live in the Amazon region. However, in order to continue their lineage, the Amazons visited the neighboring tribe Gargareans once a year, and their male children were either sent to their fathers or killed. The girls were raised by their mothers and trained in agriculture, hunting and warriorship. Amazons invaded Lycia in ancient times but were defeated by Bellerophontes. According to the Iliad, Amazon queen Penthesilea is killed by Achilles. It is claimed that the Amazons organized an expedition to the island of Leuke on the Danube River. The aim of the expedition is to possess Achilles' ashes. When the Amazons landed on the island, Achilles' ghost appeared and chased the warriors off the island. According to belief, the Roman commander Pompeii defeated his arch-enemy Pontus King VI. Mithridates' army witnessed this rumor. Amazons also appear on the stage of history during the time of Alexander the Great. Some historians of Alexander the Great wrote that the Amazon Queen Thalestris visited him and had a child with her. However, some other historians of Alexander the Great and his most reliable secondary source, Plutarch, reject this claim. Plutarch mentions in his writings that Alexander's subordinate naval commander Onesicritus read the Amazon passage from the biography of Alexander the Great to the Thracian king Lysimachus, who joined the expedition with Alexander: The king smiled at him and said: "And where was I then?" model : Armis Hasanpour director : Mehdi Ghorbani producer :Cem Berkcil location: Teos
