The Islamabad High Court granted protective bail to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references until October 24. This decision came after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) did not oppose the petitions filed by the PML-N supreme leader before his return from self-imposed exile on Saturday. Simultaneously, an Islamabad accountability court dealing with the Toshakhana case has also suspended the perpetual arrest warrants issued against the former premier in the corruption cases related to a vehicle. With these arrests temporarily halted, Nawaz Sharif is expected to arrive in Pakistan on October 21. The question now is whether the courts will grant him permanent relief.
