On September 29, 1998, two months after the events of the first Resident Evil, most of the citizens of the Middle Eastern American mountain community Raccoon City were turned into zombies by the T-Virus, a biological weapon secretly developed by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella. That evening, at an out-of-town gas station, Leon S. Kennedy, a police officer on his first day of duty, meets Claire Redfield, a college student who is looking for her police officer brother, Chris. The gas station is full of zombies and the two barely escape to the police car. Shortly after entering Raccoon City, a bitten truck driver rear-ends their car and lands sideways between the police car and the zombies, separating them from the zombies. Leon and Claire arrive at Raccoon Police Station at different times, but find the station overrun by zombies and other monsters. One of these is T-00, a nearly indestructible humanoid robot sent by the Umbrella Corporation to kill the survivors.
