Good Friday Tenebrae Service 2021

Good Friday Tenebrae Service 2021

Good Friday is the day we commemorate Jesus' crucifixion, when the God of the universe took on the sins of the world and offered himself up for all of us. Tenebrae services date back over 1000 years, and are a way to dramatically reenact the events of Good Friday. The word "tenebrae" means shadows in Latin, and as the service progresses there is less and less light, until finally the service ends in darkness, echoing the inner and outer darkness of that Friday so long ago when Jesus died upon the cross.
