In The Dark with Dylan Lee

FRET12 proudly presents, the fifth episode of IN THE DARK, at Pilsen's Thalia Hall featuring Dylan Lee-Fulcher from Chicago, IL. Originally from Lynchburg, VA, Dylan picked up guitar at age 14, having been a kid who always loved making lots of noise up to that point. Guitar gave him a release for his creative energy. Playing sax during his middle school years, his teacher was not amused hearing him playing the sax solo for Pink Floyd's "Money" and gave him the boot. A month later, however, his grandfather gave him his first acoustic, and he found himself feeling right at home on the instrument. "My guitar is how I speak, I find myself being at a lack of words very often but I always feel like I can convey myself exactly as intended through my instrument. I speak better through my guitars than any other way." -DYLAN LEE Making the move to Chicago from Virginia to start a new journey in music, Dylan is most inspired by Alt/Jazz infused Hip Hop and Soul, Bluegrass, and Blues. While most guitarists have a go-to instrument or amp, for Dylan, as long as he has a single coil neck pickup; he's set. The guitar you're seeing "IN THE DARK" on stage at Thalia Hall was given to Dylan by his uncle on his 21st birthday. It is a 1978 American Fender Strat loaded with a vintage spec set of pickups. As mentioned above, Dylan is keen on pickup sound and design, so much so that he actually winds all his own pickups in all of his guitars! Dylan also sells pickups to other musicians in and around the Chicago area as well as back home in Virginia.
