Should smacking children be banned?

Campaigners have signed an open letter calling for the prime minister to ban smacking children in England. The letter follows calls from health experts and children's charities for a UK-wide ban. Smacking is already prohibited in Wales and Scotland, but in England, the Children's Act allows for the practice in cases where it is "reasonable punishment".
