Worker Population Ratio | Workforce participation rate

PARTICIPATION OF PEOPLE IN EMPLOYMENT It refers to participation of people in the employment activity. Worker population ratio is used to measure the participation of people in the employment activities. ➤ Worker population ratio is an indicator which is used for analysing the employment situation in the country. ➤ The ratio helps us to know the proportion of the population that is actively contributing to the production of goods and services of a country. ➤ If this ratio is higher, it means that engagement of people is greater ➤ If this ratio is medium or low, it means that a very high proportion of its population is not involved directly in economic activities.  Worker population ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of workers in India by the population in India and then multiplying by 100 i.e  Worker population ratio or Workforce participation ratio= Total workersx100 / Total population Population is defined as the total number of people who reside in a particular locality at a particular point of time. Worker Population Ratio in India, 2017-18 ➤ Worker population Ratio in India for the year 2017-18. Table shows division of overall worker population Ratio into rural and urban workers as well as men and women workers. ➤Out  of every 100 persons, about 35 are workers in India. ➤In urban areas the proportion is about 34 as compared to about 35 in rural India. Compared to the urban sector, people in rural areas have limited resources to get education at higher levels, so they participate more in the employment market. ➤Number of men workers in rural areas (51.7%) is less than the men workers in urban areas (53%) which shows migrants from rural areas taking up unskilled and semi-skilled jobs in urban areas. ➤Number of women workers in rural areas (17.5%) is more than the number of women workers in urban areas (14.2%). It is because of the poor economic conditions of rural people. ➤Compared to females, more males are found to be working. It is common to find that families in India discourage female members to work because men are able to earn high incomes. ➤Women in general and urban women in particular are not working. One of the reasons is that many activities undertaken by women are not recognised as productive work eg services given by housewives, women working at family farms etc. (who are not paid for such work) #economics #class12 #macroeconomics #macroeconomicsclass12 #Employment #Unemployment #Workforceparticipationratio #Workerpopulationratio #workers 00:00 Introduction 00:00 What is Worker Population Ratio? 01:27 What does Worker population ratio state ? 02:28 How to calculate Worker population ratio? 03:10 Worker population ratio in India🇮🇳 : Data interpretation 04:59 Compare and analyse Worker population ratio in rural and urban India🇮🇳 06:35 Compare and analyse Men worker population ratio in India🇮🇳 07:35 Compare and analyse Women worker population ratio in India🇮🇳 08:15 Compare and analyse Men and Women workers population ratio in India🇮🇳
