Part 4 - World 3 (up to Beat Block) Total time: 3h 17m 50s 1 death @ Galaxy Generator 0:23 - 18.Cloudy Court 1 - 1m 11.25s (Comet Medal 11) 1:29 - The first half of this Star went so well I was worried something would go wrong near the end...and it almost did when I didn't immediately start running after getting the Comet Medal. 2:43 - 19.Freezy Flake S - 1m 33.13s 3:03 - Bumped into a Li'l Brrr, but it can't freeze you until it starts chasing Mario. I also got pushed by a snowball, but it was counteracted by the pull of the pipe. 5:01 - 20.Freezy Flake 1 - 1m 0.66s (Comet Medal 12) 5:16 - The Fire Flower lasts barely long enough to reach the Comet Medal, but this is easier than it looks. The key, I think, is to start long-jumping just before Mario touches the Fire Flower. 5:25 - I don't throw quick fireballs at the Bowser sculpture because I find it easier to start moving a little earlier after the last fireball when throwing at a normal pace. This lets me start a long-jump before the Star appears at the second Bowser sculpture. 5:35 - In a segmented run, I'd probably try to break the ice block and extinguish the Li'l Brrr with the same spin. 7:05 - 21.Haunty Halls 1 - 1m 15.08s (Comet Medal 13) 7:43 - The long-jump shortcut here found by logitechSDAZ is pretty much impossible with Mario, but it's not worth switching to Luigi for:    • Super Mario Galaxy 2: A Few More Speed Tricks   9:33 - 22.Cloudy Court C - 54.23s 10:21 - The second spin on the crystal was late. Breaking crystals is surprisingly annoying because Mario won't always immediately spin even while I'm shaking the Wiimote--not to mention the fact that crystals will sometimes break with just one spin:    • SMG2 - Wicked Wall Jumps 1'10"08   11:28 - 23.Tall Trunk 1 - 1m 47.55s (Comet Medal 14) 12:16 - I missed a Star Chip, which forced me to make an extra rotation around the second planet. I lost about 7 seconds here. 12:45 - I first saw a quick ground-pound out of a long-jump in a run by shunkolar:    • Super Mario Galaxy 2 Throwback Galaxy Gree...   14:17 - 24.Haunty Halls 2 - 1m 0.75s I got a land-cancel, but I mis-aimed the long-jump at the second ring of ghosts. 15:06 - I play it carefully on the semi-circle turn because I find the camera angle awkward. It's hard for me to tell whether I'm going to bounce off a ghost or hit the side of it. 16:14 - That last Star Bit is automatically delayed by the game. Feeding this Hungry Luma costs about 38 seconds. 16:56 - 25.Beat Block 1 - 52.76s (Comet Medal 15) 17:33 - I got hit by an Octoomba near the end, but luckily it didn't push Mario off the block.
