Queen Live in Tokyo, Japan Date: 31st March, 1976 Venue: Nippon Budokan Attendance: 14,000 Audience Recording Quality: A- The second show in Tokyo on the Opera is a nice refreshment from the past few shows of the tour. Though the first show in Tokyo was ok, there were still some struggles with Brian messing up quite a few times. Then, after that, the vocals got worse with Nagoya, Himeji, Fukuoka having Freddie in poor vocal quality, often referred to as the first cases of Japan disease. However, Freddie soon recovered for two gigs on Osaka. The first was excellent with Freddie in great vocal form. The second show was…another story. Now, with 2 days rest, Freddie is a force to be reckoned with. The last few Japan shows are often known as the best of the leg, with amazing vocals, musicianship and setlists. The first of this run is this one. This often regarded as one of Queens finest shows. Freddie is in phenomenal shape, Brian is excellent, Roger is having a good night at the office and John is as consistent as always. Seven Seas of Rhye has been brought back. However, this would also be its last performance for nearly 10 years, until it was brought back for the Works tour. During this time, famous Japanese taper Mr. Peach stopped taping their show for unknown reasons. So for a while, this show didn’t have a great sounding tape. But with the help of Ed, Ryan Newton and Historicman, a fantastic matrix was created. Big thanks to them for giving this show a great makeover.
