I'm Will and I'm excited to talk about how I “go beyond.” So I have a history of relapse. I've been in treatment more than 10 times, and I've followed the 12 Step path as my recovery path. One of the things you're called to do in the step work is to practice these principles in all your affairs, so I consider giving back to the local community, which is part of how I go beyond. Right now I'm working on the committee of the Out of the Darkness Walks, which raises awareness for suicide prevention, and I'm also heavily involved with the Elizabeth Freeman Center’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in Pittsfield. I'm on committees, I help put out signs, find sponsors, raise money, I'll be walking in both these walks, and friends and I have created teams for each walk. So “go beyond” has taken a lot of forms for me in the last year since I left Mountainside, but what we're talking about today – the two nonprofits that I'm involved with – is one of the key ways I go beyond and strengthen my recovery. Hi! My name is Keith. How I go beyond is by doing similar to what Will's doing with these two walks that we have coming up: volunteering our time and effort to promote the events so we can bring attention to it and bring joy to people. These two walks are dear to us both individually and others that are doing it.
