The Holy Eucharist: Rite II and Christmas Pageant on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 18, 2022

The Holy Eucharist: Rite II and the Annual Christmas Pageant, on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 18, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, Pittsburgh, PA. The Reverend Jonathon W. Jensen, Rector, The Reverend Neil K. Raman, Senior Associate Rector, The Reverend Cameron J. Soulis, Associate Rector, Alan Lewis, Organist and Director of Music, Jon Tyillian, Assistant Organist. Musical & Liturgical Notes: The Song of Mary, or Magnificat (the Latin form of its opening word) has been a component of Christian evening devotions for centuries, and is a fixture of the Anglican rite of Evensong. Howard Helvey wrote his setting in 2006, not for an Anglican choir, but for a Congregational church, but following the textual tradition of Anglican service-settings. Gerald Custer was a faculty member at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, and in 2006 composed his setting of the medieval lullaby Balulalow in honor of the College’s choral director, Joe Miller, in the first year of his illustrious tenure there.
