Gerolamo Induno, La partenza del coscritto (ENGLISH VERSION)

Like many other Italian artists of his generation, Gerolamo Induno, a Garibaldinian (a supporter of Garibaldi) participated in the battles of the Risorgimento, which he depicted in many of his paintings. But his interest is also to portray the consequences of war events in family and private spheres, as seen in The “Departure of the Conscript” where he stages the sad farewell of a young soldier and his girlfriend. Giuseppe Ricci Oddi's cousin decided to donate this work in 1926, 5 years before the opening of the museum. The collection that the Nobleman was forming was already so well known that many wanted to enrich it through legacies.
