UK PM's victory speech after election win

(13 Dec 2019) UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday celebrated what he called the biggest Conservative majority since the 1980s. Addressing an audience of cheering party activists in London, he said the government now had a sufficient majority in parliament to push through legislation for the UK's departure from the European Union. "This election means that getting Brexit done is now the irrefutable, irresistible, unarguable decision of the British people," he declared. With 642 of the 650 results declared on Friday, the Conservatives had 358 seats and the main opposition Labour Party 203. It was a resounding victory for Johnson, making him the most electorally successful Conservative leader since Margaret Thatcher.
