It is the fourth main entry in the Mafia franchise and the fifth game overall, and a prequel to the series, taking place decades before the events of the first game.[1] Set in Sicily, Italy, in the early 1900s, the game follows Enzo Favara, a carusu who becomes embroiled in the rise and fall of the fictional Torrisi crime family. Mafia: The Old Country was released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on August 8, 2025. The game received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the game's narrative, characters, and world design, but criticized some of its outdated gameplay mechanics. Gameplay Mafia: The Old Country is a third-person linear, narrative-driven game set in cinematic environments.[2] This brings the game more in alignment with Mafia and Mafia II rather than the more open-world oriented Mafia III.[3] While Mafia: The Old Country is primarily linear, the player can diverge from the primary path during certain story chapters to explore the environment. Synopsis Setting and characters Mafia: The Old Country is set in Sicily during the 1900s in and around the fictional town of San Celeste, which was previously featured in Mafia II.[4] It is based around the origins of the Sicilian Mafia.[1] The narrative follows Enzo Favara (Riccardo Frascari), who journeys from a childhood of indentured labor as a carusu in Sicily's sulfur mines to joining Don Bernardo Torrisi (Johnny Santiago), the head of the Torrisi crime family.[2] Plot In 1904, Enzo Favara and his friend Gaetano (Giancarlo Sabogal) are carusi working at the sulfur mine of Don Ruggero Spadaro (Lane Townsend), overseen by his abusive underboss Damiano "Il Merlo" Bastoni and his brother Corrado "L'Ombra" Bastoni (both Raphael Corkhill). Enzo and Gaetano prepare to flee the mine in hope for a better future, but their plan goes awry when a gas leak causes part of the mine to collapse, killing Gaetano. Seeking retribution after Spadaro and the Bastonis ignored previous warnings about the mine tremors, Enzo scars Il Merlo and a pursuit ensues. Enzo finds shelter but is later cornered in a stable by Il Merlo and L'Ombra and is rescued by Don Bernardo Torrisi, not realizing he has trespassed on his territory. After being threatened by Torrisi for potentially breaking the truce between the Spadaro and Torrisi families, Il Merlo and L'Ombra leave. Enzo is introduced to the Torrisi family and begins to work for them, befriending underboss Luca Trapani (Alberto Frezza),[a] the Don's nephew Cesare Massaro (Christian Antidormi), and the Don's daughter Isabella (Carina Conti), who becomes attracted to him. #gaming #letsplay #gamingvideos #videogameplaythrough #games #gameplay #gamingchannel #playstation #pc #game
