Filmed November 1, 2021. A petition and ways to help Veterans to save their soldiers home at the west LA VA. This is so wrong how we have treated Veterans in Los Angeles, in what has become the nations capital of veteran homelessness. https://www.aftpfoundation.com/help-v... This was the day Veterans moved from tents on the curb on San Vicente to asphalt on the West LA VA. Nearly a historic day for the west LA VA who seemed to have been systematically denying services and removing Veterans from the land. This day dozens of the Veterans moved on the other side of the gate. Veterans should be in the buildings at the WEST LA VA. Not Tents and now tiny sheds… Now that the veterans have moved from a tent on a curb outside the VA, dozens of these veterans sleep in tents on asphalt on the VA! That is outrageous. They are required to use porter potties. On Christmas they didn’t have a shower which didn’t work for days. When the shower works its freezing cold or scolding hot. And hasn’t worked for over a week since. They are given 1 case of water, sometimes. Some days they aren’t given water! Here is some context on the overall situation and why Los Angeles is the capital in the country for Homeless Veterans... There was 900+ acres donated as a deed to the federal government in 1888 to house and serve disabled and houseless veterans. Specifically to be their “HOME”. That word is specific. In the 1950’s during the Korean War, over 4,000 veterans called it a home. The property isn’t supposed to have anything on it that doesn’t serve veterans. However its hundreds of acres in Brentwood making it one of the most valuable pieces of property in the country. In the 80’s is when “land leases” began which are illegal and have allowed entities like Brentwood school, UCLA baseball, a Brentwood theater, and other entities that have decided to use the land. At what cost? How do they do this? They show Veterans aren’t using their services. They do this by literally removing services and making the ones they have incredibly hard to use. If the VA can show the land is underutilized, they can have a reason to lease more of the land. If the veterans dont have advocacy, the 900+ acres they have now will be taken over by dorms for UCLA, parks for Brentwood, and other things that HAVE NO BENEFIT TO VETERANS. This VA serves an administration and land developers that try and remove the word “home” from plaques and verbiage and want to call it a “campus”. A campus we know, you come and go. A home you live at. Brentwood wants that to be a campus, but it was deeded to be a home. This is the issue. I appreciate the support and feedback on YouTube as I start posting here more.
