Besides the fact that this means top model Karlie Kloss is on the runway (as she has been for the past two seasons,) Jean Paul usually goes behind the confines of "typical haute couture" (not that there is such a thing) by focusing on something out-of-the-box. Last season, it was an ode to late singer Amy Winehouse. This season, he focused once again on a trend that has become somewhat of a signature for the designer--the idea of masculine and feminine in dress. This time, it took place at the turn of the century and the tuxedos and jumpsuits were as lively as ever. Don't forget that top hat and tails! Along the way, he also played up the trench coat, pinstripe pants, unique lapels, oversize tops, paisley printed gowns, and colors like pastel blue and bright purple. The women wore flapper-inspired hairnet headbands that sparkled, but still carried on that masculine air. And don't forget the cross dressing! Gaultier made the appearances of Willy Cartier and Andrej Pejic scream louder than ever! And then there was that powerful intro with model Erin O'Connor wearing a tailcoat with leather sleeves and carrying an umbrella. That image is unforgettable.
