Australia supporters couldn’t hide their dismay after the Matilda’s 3-1 defeat to England in the World Cup semi-final on Wednesday. Fans said the performance and result was "very disappointing”, particularly after their quarter-final victory over France. Gathered in a park to watch the historic match en masse, Australia fans were left in despair as the co-hosts crashed out of the tournament. England shattered their World Cup dreams thanks to goals from Ella Toone and Lauren Hemp, either side of Australia’s Sam Kerr’s equaliser made it 2-1.
