Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, the Tavares brothers were singing professionally throughout the 1960's as Chubby And The Turnpikes. It wasn't until relocating to Los Angeles and hooking up with producer Freddie Perren, that they changed their group name to Tavares and started making a dent on the charts. Don't Take Away The Music, came right in the middle of their most successful run in the 1970's. The single peaked at #13 on the Cash Box chart, week ending 12/25/76.
