A P-51 Mustang Pilot Encounters a German Messerschmitt ME 262 Jet Fighter Plane Over Munich, Germany

Lt. Col. John T. Nelson was a fighter pilot who served in the US Army Air Force during World War II. During the war, he flew P-40 Warhawk, British Spitfire, and P-51 Mustang fighters. Lt. Col. Nelson flew missions in the Mediterranean Theater and was credited with the downing of 3 German Messerschmidt Bf-109 fighters. In this clip, he describes flying with an outlaw squadron. An outlaw squadron was a flight of four planes with the mission of searching out targets of opportunity. He would fly with British Mosquito fighter planes piloted by South Africans. During one of his missions, they encountered a German Messerschmitt ME 262 Jet Fighter plane.
