Madras HC deems ‘conversion therapy’ for LGBTQIA+ people as ‘medical misconduct’ | The Federal

‘Conversion therapy’ is a practice that queer people are subjected to in order to ‘cure’ them of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Even though it is illegal, the practice is widely used in India. The National Medical Commission (NMC) recently told the Madras High Court that medical professionals carrying out ‘conversion therapy’ on LGBTQIA+ people amounts to professional misconduct.
