Stardust (early mix)

Stardust (early mix)

"Stardust" was written by Hoagy Carmichael in 1927. It was his first big hit. He would later write "Georgia on My Mind" & "The Nearness of You" - both of which appear on the album - plus many more hits including: "Up the Lazy River", "Heart and Soul", "Skylark", "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening”… "Stardust" was my mother's favorite song, the only song I ever heard her play on the piano. The Latin-Funk-Calypso feel of this arrangement would surprise her yet, hopefully, delight her as well. I can see her dancing to it in the kitchen with breezy joy. Woody Mankowski provides the soprano saxophone colorations. Simplicity is at the core of this arrangement, an oasis of restraint in an album of compressed ideas and restless diversity. Note: the bass line is barely audible when played through a computer's speakers. Headphones may be needed. Many thanks to Arrow Of Time - Milky Way Time Lapse Collection for the fabulous time-lapse photography of the stars that form the backdrop of this video. This is Track 2 from Volume 2 of "Standard Deviations". See www.tobinmueller.com/standard/#liner_notes2 for complete liner notes, bonus tracks, etc.
