(1 Jun 2019) Eleven people were killed after a shooter opened fire Friday in a municipal building in Virginia Beach and shot "indiscriminately" at his co-workers, police said. Virginia Beach police Chief James Cervera said the shooter killed 11 people. Police returned fire, killing the suspect, who was a longtime, disgruntled employee of the city's Public Works Department, Cervera said. Six other people were wounding in the shooting, including a police officer. Megan Banton who is an administrative assistant at the Virginia Beach Public Works department described the moments during the shooting. "We've just heard that there is an active shooter and we just barricaded ourselves in offices to make sure that we were all safe and I called 911 just to get them to come there as fast as possible," said Megan while fighting back tears. Sentara Healthcare tweeted that five patients were being treated at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and a sixth was being transferred to the Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
