Yojimbo vs Dark Ifrit - Final Fantasy X HD Remaster

This video shows how to beat Dark Ifrit with Yojimbo. In order to do that, first you have to raise the hidden Yojimbo Compatibility stat high enough so his chances of performing Zanmato are as high as possible. A brief summary of how to do that follows (for a detailed guide, I would recommend the Yojimbo FAQs on GameFaqs. That's where I got this info from): 1. When you first obtain Yojimbo, pick Option 2 or 3. 2. Immediately start training him. In the beginning summon him once you have only one enemy left and you've lowered their HP enough so that a single hit would finish them off. 3. Pay Yojimbo a sum of gil that is a power of 2, such as 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc. I personally started off with 512. 4. Never pay Yojimbo 0 gil. 5. Never let Yojimbo get K.O.ed. If that happens restart from your last save point. 6. Never dismiss Yojimbo immediately after you summon him. 7. Preferably use Grand Summon, i.e. Yuna's Overdrive, instead of regular one when you summon him. That increases the likelyhood he would pick Zanmato. What you'll most likely notice is that initially he would not pick Zanmato very often. However, the more you train him as stated above, the more often that will start happening (and when it does, it is a joy to behold). For those unfamiliar with Zanmato, it is the single most powerful attack in the entire game. More powerful than Blitz Ace, Attack Reels, or Passado. Zanmato doesn't do numerical damage, it simply takes out any and all enemies with one hit. That includes all normal monsters, bosses, Dark Aeons, and Monster Arena creations. If you train Yojimbo properly, he will start doing Zanmato quite often, at times even without asking for payment. Following are some of the advantages of using Yojimbo to fight the hardest monsters in the game: 1. You can defeat them significantly earlier than the normal method, i.e. leveling up all your characters until you pretty much max out their stats. It takes much longer, for example, to start hitting for 99,999 damage with Auron, Tidus, or Wakka than to train Yojimbo to pick Zanmato at the highest possible probability. 2. You don't need any of the Celestial Weapons or Ultimate Armors, which take a long time to obtain and fully power-up. You also don't need some of the more powerful skills, such as Quick Hit and Auto-Life. 3. By defeating the Dark Aeons early in the game, you get access to really powerful equipment, such as weapons with Break Damage Limit and armor with Break HP Limit and Ribbon earlier, without having to farm for rare items (which is tedious and time consuming) and customize equipment. For example, in the video above Dark Ifrit dropped a weapon for Wakka with the Break Damage Limit ability on it. 4. You will most likely have to restart a few times before Yojimbo does Zanmato, but not that many. In the video above, he picked Zanmato on the 4th try. When I was fighting Dark Valefor, he did it on the 2nd one. Also it doesn't cost too much gil. The most I've had to pay him so far has been 16,384 gil. That may seem like a lot, but by that point in the game, monsters are dropping more gil than earlier. 5. In addition, you can start farming for other powerful equipment and rare items earlier in the game. For example, One Eye in the Monster Arena drops Magic Defense spheres and weapons with the Triple AP ability, meaning you can start leveling up your characters faster much earlier in the game than normal. For example, in order to be strong enough to defeat One Eye without Zanmato, you would have to level up your characters so much that by that point abilities like Triple AP would be less valuable than they would be earlier in the game. As is, I already have Triple AP weapons for Auron, Yuna, and Rikku. I usually have to restart 1-2 times for Yojimbo to pull off Zanmato against One Eye. 6. And finally, I find it more elegant and satisfying, but that's just me :-)
