DAILY ROMAN CATHOLIC READINGS AND SPIRITUAL REFLECTIONS Thursday, 18th December 2025 ------------------------------------------------ THURSDAY, THIRD WEEK IN ADVENT Jer 23: 5-8 Ps 72: 1-2, 12-13, 18-19 Mt 1: 18-25 ------------------------------------------------ TRUSTING GOD IN UNCERTAINTIES The readings of the day gently remind us that God’s ways are often mysterious, and His plans may not always align with our limited understanding. Yet, behind every twist and turn of our journey lies a divine purpose shaped by His infinite wisdom and love. In the book of Jeremiah, we hear the prophet’s plea for the people to listen to God’s voice and walk in His ways. But instead of trusting His guidance, they choose their own paths, paths that lead them away from peace and into suffering. Still, God’s response is not one of anger or abandonment. His heart overflows with mercy and compassion. He continues to call out to His people, longing for them to return to Him with faith and trust. This image of God’s steadfast love, even in the face of human disobedience, is both comforting and challenging. It reminds us that no matter how far we wander, God never stops seeking us. He waits patiently, like a loving Father, ready to embrace us again when we choose to return. His silence is never absence, it is often an invitation to listen more deeply, to rediscover His will hidden within the noise of our own desires. In the Gospel of Matthew, we meet Joseph who faced deep confusion and fear. When he learns of Mary’s unexpected pregnancy, his world must have felt like it was collapsing. Yet even in his uncertainty, he listens. In that stillness, the angel’s voice reaches his heart, assuring him of God’s plan. By trusting and obeying, Joseph becomes a vital instrument in the unfolding of salvation. Through his silent faith, the divine plan moves forward. Joseph teaches us that faith is not merely believing when things make sense; it is choosing to trust when they do not. When we dare to let go of our fears and doubts, God transforms them into strength, peace, and grace. When life feels confusing or heavy, when our hearts wrestle with questions we cannot answer, let us remember Joseph’s quiet courage and God’s unchanging love. God’s plans are always greater than our fears.
