Will Covid-19 burst the shared mobility bubble? IET India Digital Debates - Episode 1

Our first digital debate focused on how Covid-19 on the whether commuters would continue to use shared mobility in today's times of the covid pandemic. The future of the shared mobility seems vague after the outbreak of the pandemic. The reasons for this is, one - users are likely to be apprehensive of using shared mobility for fear of infection, two - the shared mobility service providers are likely to face significant shortage of drivers as most of them would have returned to their hometowns. However, there is also an opposing thought, since the owners of the shared mobility services predict that there will be no eventual negative impact on the relevance of shared mobility services for the obvious reasons such as affordability, flexibility and ease of availability. Discussion focused on: What impact has the pandemic had on the future of shared mobility? Will people continue to travel using shared transport? Will shared mobility continue to be a preferred mode of commute or will its popularity witness a substantial decline? What are the new business models and opportunities for the shared mobility sector.
