This is my Ken Loomer Big Band which I have had now for 20 years. I get to do one drum solo when I do my concerts. I always try to make my solo`s exciting and of course make them different every time I play. During one part of my drum solo, I decided to play just the cymbals. I first saw Gene Krupa do this in one of his movies he made in the 40`s. Then of course I got to see live Buddy Rich and he was the master at playing just the cymbals. Here I`m using my classic 70`s A Zildjian cymbals which has a incredible tone and sound to them. I`m playing with a light touch all around the cymbals to bring out the wonderful tone of these cymbals. Lots of crossovers between the ride and crash cymbals and playing under and on top of each cymbal. This is a artform hard to do on cymbals. But once you get it down, it looks and sounds great! Then it`s back to playing my classic Slingerland drums which has that big full open tone that I love so much. Leading a Big Band has been a joy for me, and it brings out the best in my playing always.
