How to Calculate Time Enroute to Checkpoints - For Student Pilots

In this video, I show how to calculate the time to each checkpoint for your cross-country flight plan. In order to calculate the time, we need the ground speed and distance to each checkpoint. Then, the time is simply the distance divided by the ground speed. But be careful! You need to make sure your units for time match. Ground speed is in terms of nautical miles per hour, so in order to use this equation we need our time values in terms of an hour. To do this we can divide by 60 such that our entire equation becomes distance divided by ground speed divided by 60. Our distance values came from one of the first steps of our cross-country plan when we used our plotter tool on our charts and measured the distances directly.
