Pakistan is facing an unprecedented flood emergency as overflowing rivers continue to inundate vast areas of Punjab and Sindh. Authorities warned on Tuesday that Multan and nearby districts could face critical flooding in the next 48 hours, with the breaching of the Shershah dyke under consideration to protect urban centres. More than 200,000 people have been displaced across Punjab, while rescue teams said over 235,000 residents and 180,000 cattle have been moved to safer locations. Nearly 2.1 million people have been evacuated overall, with 80,000 living in 488 relief camps. Over 1.95 million acres of farmland remain underwater, devastating cotton and rice crops and threatening food security. In Karachi, heavy rains caused three deaths — two from electrocution and one from drowning. Rural Sindh districts including Tharparkar and Dadu also reported severe damage to homes and infrastructure. The United Nations has pledged $5 million in emergency aid to help Pakistan cope with the crisis. President Asif Ali Zardari has directed urgent measures to safeguard food supplies as forecasters warn that another monsoon wave cannot be ruled out. #PakistanFloods #PunjabFloods #SindhFloods #Multan #Karachi #BreakingNews #ClimateCrisis #UN #FloodRelief #DisasterResponse #FoodSecurity #SouthAsia #PakistanNews #GlobalNews #Emergency --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dawn News English is your window into the latest news, insight, and features from South Asia and beyond.
