In this video I compare the performance of an old GPU - the AMD R9 Fury - in Windows and Linux, as well as applying a few tweaks to both operating systems. Linux has long been known to run well on old hardware, and these results prove it. Untweaked, Linux ran Cyberpunk 20% faster than Windows. With the right optimizations, I was exceeding an average framerate of 60 fps on the High preset. Hardware: Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro 4GB HBM VRAM, Dell Precision T5500 (2xXeon X5687, 24GB DDR3-1333) Software: Cyberpunk 2077, Steam (Windows and Linux native clients), Proton Experimental, gamemode, OBS Studio (sample gameplay capture), PopOS 22.04 Note: due to the performance impact of software video capture, framerates shown in sample gameplay are less than the results achieved in the game's built-in benchmark. Edited and rendered in kdenlive on PopOS 22.04.
