2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith.... Every child of God carries a divine destiny, yet many believers never fulfill it. It is not because God changes His plans, but because certain habits, choices, and attitudes open doors for the enemy to derail what God intended. Paul’s instruction to “examine yourselves” is a call to constant spiritual reflection. Without self-examination and humility, a person can slowly drift off course without realizing it. Below are some of the things that have wrecked many destinies and how to overcome them. 1. Ingratitude 2 Timothy 3:2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, UNTHANKFUL, unholy, One of the things that ruins destinies is ingratitude. This was the challenge God faced with the children of Israel—they would easily forget all He had done for them. Yet whenever they faced difficulties, they would cry out, “God, where are You?” Ingratitude can keep many from receiving what the Lord has prepared because they forget His faithfulness. Each of us, if we are honest, has a testimony. That’s why we should always remember where the Lord has brought us from, never treat it as ordinary, and use it to develop a heart of gratitude. 2. Aligning with the Wrong People When the devil wants to abort your destiny, he will align you with the wrong people who will waste your life. That's why we must be very conscious about our relationships- the people we relate with and allow into our spaces, because both Satan and God use people. For example, Judas Iscariot, one of the 12 disciples of Jesus, aborted his destiny of Apostleship because of his association with the Pharisees (people who didn't like Jesus). His weakness was money, which satan later used against him to betray Jesus through the Pharisees, and later he committed suicide. Sadly, his destiny was aborted. That's why we should constantly examine yourself and ask the Lord to show you the wrong characters in your life and give you the courage to get rid of them. 3. The Fear of Men Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe. Each time you consider what people will think or say about you, you will have no stand because you want to please men. Don't be a man-pleaser: God's opinion should weigh more than man's opinion. Otherwise, you will wreck your destiny. Take an example of Saul in 1 Samuel 15, who was instructed to destroy all the Amalekites, but because he feared the people and wanted to please them, he obeyed their voice and disobeyed God. This was the end of his dynasty; he lost the throne because of his fear of the people. Respect and honour men, but fear God. When it comes to obeying God, no man should be above God, including yourself. May the Holy Spirit deliver you from the fear of men. 4. Impatience 1 Samuel 13:7-10 Saul entered an office that wasn't ordained for him because he saw people leaving him. He feared people more than God. Unfortunately, he ended up losing the kingdom (1 Samuel 13:14). Do not be in a hurry, be patient, and you will fulfil your destiny. Take the example of John the Baptist, who was in the wilderness until the time of his manifestation, and when he came out of the wilderness and began his ministry, he affected the entire nation. His ministry lasted for only six months, and he went to heaven with a fulfilled destiny. 5. Pride Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Pride, which is self-exaltation, will cut your destiny short. Take the example of Adonijah and Absalom, who both died because of self-exaltation. Do not be ashamed of your beginning, and try to put up a show; there is no reason to try to impress people. Pride leads to a downfall just as it did for Lucifer.
