Fox News reports at least one ROTC student at Old Dominion University fatally stabbed the suspect, Mohamed Jalloh after he opened fire in a classroom. The FBI said Jalloh, a naturalized citizen of Sierra Leone, yelled “Allahu Akbar” before he opened fire. Court documents allege Jalloh was radicalized by a well-known al-Qaeda propagandist and was sentenced in 2017 for attempting to provide material support to ISIS. He was released in late 2024. The Virginia Army National Guard confirmed that Jalloh served as a specialist from 2009 until 2015 when he was honorably discharged. The victim who died in the shooting was identified as Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, who ran the university's ROTC program.
