Earth (Black Sabbath) (1968 / 1969) THE REBEL (Tony Iommi Sabbra Cadabra Guitar Improv 2)

BLACK SABBATH were an English rock band formed in Birmingham in '68 by guitarist Tony Iommi(with Jethro Tull late '68 early '69), drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne.Originally the band name was EARTH before changing to Black Sabbath named after a '63 horror film with the same name.Sabbath famous and known to be the original HEAVY METAL DARK AND DOOMY METAL band to walk the face of this WICKED WORLD\M/.But if you ask Tony he would say that we were just an England rock blues band who was into horror films and thought it would be cool and unique to make music to scare people like going to see a horror film like he would do with Geezer(Terry)Butler in the early days.Black Sabbath were not into black magic at all(what they said), they just had an interest in it and would make it their band theme.Part of the reason of their sound was the fact that Tony Iommi had to detune his guitar to a low tuning(DARK SOUND)and using light gauge strings after a FREAK BLOODY accident in a SHEET METAL factory by CHOPPING OFF MIDDLE FINGER and RING FINGER TIPS by accident on his last day at work before quitting and before becoming a GUITAR ROCK GOD OF HEAVY METAL in a band called BLACK SABBATH.It's like Tony made a deal with the Devil in order to become a ROCKSTAR!Tony could not play guitar the other away around, wasn't until he was influenced by GYPSY JAZZ GOD DJANGO REINHARDT with a similar handicap, only playing with a couple fingers.Tony went home with his welding experience and molded artificial finger tips and wrapped it in leather then placed it on his fingers.Sabbath went on to record their first debut self titled album called Black Sabbath in 12hrs(recorded live with few outtakes in the studio)in Oct '69(some outtakes recored in Nov '69)and making their first successful single "Evil Woman" in '70.Sabbath's first major exposure came when the band appeared on John Peel's Top Gear radio show in '69.The cover was eerie with a black witch figure in a black cloak on the front cover(18 year old model Louisa Livingstone and is still alive today)with an inverted crucifix pictured inside the sleeve of the debut.Photographer Keith McMillan brought the model to an eerie location outside of London to the 15th century Mapledurham Watermill house on River Thames in Oxfordshire at a brutal cold 4am morning with some dry ice, smoke machine, a dead crow, and a live black cat to shoot the picture and capture the vibe(sounds like witch craft). The photo was boiled to create a relic effect.Terry "Geezer" Butler practicing Aleister Crowley's black magic with a book giving to him by Ozzy claiming he saw a black figure in his black painted room with inverted crosses scaring him to DEATH.Geezer's experience inspired him and the band to write their opening track "Black Sabbath" which is a tritone riff(distance between 1 note to another)and you would be beheaded if played in a church in ancient colonial times. The SOUND OF SATAN!The band would release the beast to the press and later paying for it as RIOTS, BURNING CHURCHES, canceled tour dates and angry fans in CLOAKS and CANDLES were literally picketing, protesting and threaten the band to stay away claiming they were SATANIC WORSHIPPERS.One person almost STABBED Tony in the early days!"The Rebel" was a record label promotional recording effort by ‘68/‘69 band "Earth"(Black Sabbath)originally written by Norman Haines.According to the Youtube channel TheSterlingSound Tony was using his olympic white Fender Stratocaster thru a Marshall Plexi with a treblebooster. The chord progression is similar to Sabbath's '78 song "Never Say Die."Tony Iommi known for using Laney Supergroup amplifier stacks with a Dallas Rangemaster treble booster for his signature distortion sound. Also seen Tony use Orange amps in the early days of '70 which Sabbath can be seen playing live at the Beat Club.Iommi famous for playing his modded early/mid '60's left handed Gibson SG Special(aka the "Monkey SG" because of the monkey playing a violin sticker Tony put on the axe bit later in the '70's)with stock Gibson P-90 pickups swapped out for his John Birch pickups.Originally Tony was using a Fender Stratocaster with Jethro Tull and Earth(later changed to Black Sabbath), but the pickup/electronics died on him during the debut album session. Are there Sabbath takes with the Strat?Tony picked up his rare left handed SG, history.Ladies Gents BLACK SABBATH!
