COVID-19: Japan to lift state of emergency as new infections fall

The whole of Japan will be out of a state of emergency on Oct 1, for the first time in nearly half a year. Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has approved the move as the country has seen a steady decline in new infections. He said that thanks to vaccinations, the strain on medical systems has also eased.
