This special event took place on Monday 18th March 2024. Participants had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with Nigel Whiskin, a Somerset resident and one of the founders of the Restorative Justice movement. In the harsh, painful and often unforgiving world of crime and criminal justice, Restorative Justice is an extraordinary example of kindness in action. Inspired by indigenous practices across the world, it offers victims of crime the opportunity to meet or communicate with the offender to discuss the impact of the crime. This often brings a sense of closure and understanding, as well as scientifically proven benefits such as a reduced risk of PTSD and a 14% reduction in reoffending. Nigel Whiskin MBE is a former probation officer and co-founder of Restorative Solutions, a leading organisation in the field. He shared his reflections followed by a Q&A.
