Children of Tsunami April 2005 - Putri

The Asian Tsunami of December 2004 left a trail of destruction in South and Southeast Asia. Picking up from where the news media left off, Children of Tsunami tracks the recovery of eight affected families in the four hardest hit countries. TVE Asia Pacific's locally based TV journalist teams are visiting and filming with them every month in 2005 to track their recovery. In April 2005, slowly recovering from their initial shock and grief, the families are looking forward to rebuilding their lives. In India, Mala's father is recovering from his wounds but the conditions for farmers and fisherman have become a lot worse. Selvam's father complains that the rehabilitation work is of poor quality and benefits only the rich contractors. In Indonesia, Putri's parents earn their living by cleaning the tsunami-damaged land, while Yenni speaks of her hopes of becoming a doctor to help those who are less fortunate. In Sri Lanka, Heshani's family has plans to move into a bigger home soon but worries that it's close to the sea. Theeban leaves his camp unannounced with his uncle during the traditional New Year celebrations, which are celebrated on a low key. In Thailand, Bao moves in with his uncle and starts saving up for the future, while the constant rumours of new tsunamis leaves Beam's mother really worried.
