Monday's extended Cleveland weather forecast: Chilly week ahead in Northeast Ohio

Cleveland weather forecast for Monday, October 7, 2024. Sweater weather is here -- and here to stay -- this week as cooler air continues to move in behind yesterday's cold front. Winds will remain on the breezy side today as temps struggle to get into the low 60s for highs. The cooler air over our relatively warm lake water will help to create lake effect clouds today and those lake clouds will come and go throughout the day tomorrow as well. Temps will remain on the chilly side this week with highs in the 60s for much of the week and overnight lows in the 40s. We'll remain mainly dry outside of a stray lake effect shower or two east of Cleveland. Attention then turns toward the weekend when a series of fronts will swing through the Great Lakes. We may have a shower on Saturday with a better chance for showers Sunday as a stronger cold front moves through. This cold front looks to bring us some of the coldest air of the season next week with lake effect rain potential. It's still early, but model guidance has been consistent in bringing this cooler air in. Either way it certainly is looking like fall and eventually the fall foliage will follow suit. The big national story is the continued strengthening of Hurricane Milton down in the Gulf of Mexico. This system is expected to brush the northern tip of the Yucatan before moving east toward Florida. The western coast of Florida is expected to bear the brunt of the impacts from this one with devastating storm surge, powerful damaging winds and flooding rainfall. The center of circulation is expected to pass just to the south of Tampa as of now. Milton will head out into the Atlantic by the weekend and is not expected to be an issue for us here in Ohio.
