While programs like ChatGPT have revolutionised the way many people work, these platforms can suffer what’s called a “hallucination”, which is when they might spit something out as fact, even though it might not have any basis for it. Computer scientist Jey Han Lau told Yahoo Finance it can be a huge problem if that false fact is taken as gospel. The expert said, “It is certainly one of the bigger limitations about these large language models (LLMs) that a lot of people are actually not aware of.
