Pawpaw Trees: does adding sulfur to soil kill the tree? fall 2022 growth and desert heat survival.

I show the progress of all 7 Pawpaw trees. They were all burned during the summer and I thought it was due to the heat, but I am now thinking it is because I tried to neutralize the soil more since it was slightly alkaline due to the water we have here in the desert. I will just leave the mulch for next year and not add anything to see how well they do without special treatment.
