Mario fights back, but do our heroes even stand a chance against this overwhelming force? ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✒ GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE GAME: With the success of the SNES classic "Super Mario RPG," Nintendo proved that its mascot, Super Mario, was capable of gaining a foothold in the highly competitive role-playing genre and putting his own stamp on it. However, with the temporary end of the collaboration between Square Soft and Nintendo, it became clear that the former developers would not be available for a sequel. A successor was soon found, however: Nintendo entrusted Intelligent Systems with the development of a sequel, which bore the working name "Super Mario RPG 2." Intelligent Systems seemed like the perfect choice, as the third-party development studio had worked closely with Nintendo since the NES era, creating exclusive titles such as "Fire Emblem" and "Wars" for them. It was initially planned for the Nintendo 64DD disk system, but this flopped, necessitating a re-orientation for the standard Nintendo 64. During this phase, the game finally developed its own identity and emancipated itself from the idea of being a mere successor to Super Mario RPG. The unique graphic style created by art director Naohiko Aoyama made such a strong impression that the entire game was dubbed "Paper Mario" in the West, while in Japan it had the more neutral name "Mario Story". In any case, it was clear that the game now saw itself as something completely new. The first title in the series was released on August 11, 2000, and was so well received by critics that a sequel was announced for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003. Ryota Kawade returned as director, and the new identity as the Paper Mario series was fully embraced, as evidenced by the fact that the Japanese name now also included the title ("Paper Mario RPG"). The game was finally released in Japan on July 22, 2004, and in Europe on November 12, 2004. The game's status as a sequel is demonstrated by the mechanical similarities it shares with its predecessor: Mario once again attacks by jumping or hammering in a turn-based combat system, which adds a dynamic element through action commands, with the audience being involved for the first time; Mario once again receives power points, blossom points, or badge points when he reaches a new level; Mario once again has partners at his side in battle, some of whom play the same role as the partners in the predecessor; Mario once again has to collect seven artifacts, which he needs to overcome the final challenge, so the game is again divided into eight chapters. At the same time, the game expands on many of the existing mechanics and integrates them better into the world. At the same time, it's more varied and, after the first chapter, which is very similar to its predecessor, offers a multitude of creative environments and locations, each with a different basic mechanic depending on the chapter. Furthermore, the cast of partners and characters is much more integrated into the world, and their individual fates are portrayed more emotionally. These factors, along with the unique art style, have ensured that Paper Mario 2 remains my absolute favorite game to this day. I'm excited to introduce you to every single facet of this amazing game and to illuminate the love that went into it. ▪ TITLE: Paper Mario: Legend of the Thousand Years Gate ▪ DEVELOPER: Intelligent Systems ▪ PUBLISHER: Nintendo ▪ SYSTEM: Nintendo GameCube ▪ GENRE: RPG ▪ OFFICIAL SITE: https://bit.ly/2zqR7va ▪ GERMANY RELEASE: November 12, 2004 ▪ METASCORE: 87% ▪ HASHTAGS: #PaperMario, #PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor, #SuperMario
