Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conducted an aerial survey of the affected regions to take stock of the trail of destruction left behind by severe cyclonic storm Amphan in West Bengal. The PM announced interim financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for West Bengal and assured that the Centre and state are working together to provide all possible help to people. The death toll due to the cyclone Amphan in West Bengal climbed to 80. PM Modi will also visit Odisha and conduct an aerial survey. "I told PM that we'll get Rs 53,000 Cr from central govt regarding food subsidy, social schemes and central schemes wherever our money is there. So I said you try to give some money to us so that we can work in this crisis," she said. He (PM Modi) announced Rs 1000 Crore for the emergency fund but he didn't clarify whether it'll be advance or a package. He said he'll decide later on but he said it may be advance also. I said whatever you will give you decide, we'll give you details, said Mamata Banerjee. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee briefed the media and said that West Bengal suffered losses of more than Rs 1 lakh crore due to cyclone Amphan. The Trinamool Congress supremo claimed to have told PM Modi that “in this hour of crisis, we all must work together.” The Odisha government claimed that there has been no report of loss of human life due to cyclone Amphan in the state. CM Naveen Patnaik had set zero casualty target ahead of the cyclonic storm. President Ram Nath Kovind telephoned Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and expressed his concern over the devastation caused by cyclone Amphan. "I spoke with the Governor of Odisha, Prof. Ganeshi Lal, and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, today and expressed my concern about people’s well-being in the wake of devastation caused by Cyclone Amphan," the president tweeted. President Kovind spoke to West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to enquire about the situation following the large-scale loss of life and property caused by Cyclone Amphan. He assured them that the entire nation stands united in supporting the affected people. He prayed hoped that normalcy returns to the state soon. "In the aftermath of Cyclone Amphan, I spoke with the Governor of West Bengal, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, today to enquire about the situation following the large-scale loss of life and property caused by Cyclone Amphan," the President tweeted "I conveyed to them that in this hour of crisis the nation stands united in supporting the affected people in every possible way. I am confident that the official machinery is striving hard to ensure efficient rescue and relief operations."
