I don’t know who this song was by originally, but it’s one that I grew up singing and one which ai associate with a wonderful evangelist who used to sing it at national conferences (Sis June). I probably ought to have begun the song with the line, ‘I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised.’ I’m not sure why I didn’t. However, there are various lyrics which can be put to this song. The song is based on Psalm 18:1-3 KJV - A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, 1 I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. and Psalm 18:46 KJV The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. I love this Psalm. It has so much to say to us about the grace of God. We all need God’s help. Although God knows everything, He does not impose Himself upon us. We call to Him in our distress and He answers us. Praise be for o God! Even if you are not sure that you believe in God, try calling (out to) Him and asking for help. If you do so with all of your heart, He will not fail to respond to you. God is real. God is true. God is kind. May the Lord bless you as you take this song in.
