Utilities on standby for potentially historic nor’easter

Eversource and National Grid have cable reels, transformers, utility poles and extra equipment stocked up ready for what could be an historic nor’easter, but they are urging patience. Cape Cod is expected to be especially hard hit. “We’ve got crews staged all around the Cape,” said Eversource spokesman Brian Sullivan. Eversource is bringing in extra manpower. “All the way from Canada, all the way up from Florida and down south and the southern states,” Sullivan said. Power outages are a major concern with this storm, and it’s expected to carry significant wind gusts, especially on the Cape. Blizzard conditions could also slow down crews. “Especially with the blizzard driving conditions, if there is damage it’s going to be hard to get to while the storm is going on. That’s the biggest obstacle we have right now,” Sullivan said. Utility companies urging customers to be prepared and be patient.
