Tropical coral reefs under pressure Part 6: Climate change, pollution and overfishing

This clip is part of the documentary Tropical Coral Reefs Under Pressure. Here we tell Climate change, pollution and overfishing There is no doubt that climate change is the biggest problem for the coral reefs - the rise of temperature that happens makes the coral reefs bleach and kill the animals – is by far the biggest problem, but there are also a lot of local influences like pollution and overfishing. In large parts of Asia - and many other places in the World, you do not have an efficient waste disposal service. When people don´t have garbage disposal, they throw the garbage on the beach - or in the streets - and when the rain season begins, a lot will be washed out into the sea. OVERFISHING As long as there have been people in the area, they have been dependent on the rich sea and what they can harvest from it. The constantly increasing population and the rapidly growing economy in Asia are pushing resources into the sea. The intensive fishing means that a significant part of the fish stock fully exploited or directly overfished.
